Sri Lanka Agripreneurs’ Forum (SLAF) partners with National Youth Services Council (NYSC) to Unveil “Sarubima” Initiative to Empower 10,000 Youth Agripreneurs

In a significant move to foster youth-driven innovation in agriculture, the Sri Lanka Agripreneurs’ Forum (SLAF) partners with the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) for the “Sarubima” initiative. This groundbreaking program aims to empower and support 10,000 budding Agripreneurs across Sri Lanka.

The first day of the event, which took place at the National Youth Services Council Maharagama, was a resounding success, attracting a dynamic crowd of young individuals who recently completed their Advanced Level (A/L) examinations. The SLAF partnered with the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) for this inspiring gathering.

In the opening session, Mr. Roshan Ranasinghe, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, delivered a speech where he highlighted the vital role of agri-entrepreneurship and stressed the importance of involving youth in shaping the agricultural sector.

The event commenced with a warm welcome speech of Mr. Rizvi Zaheed, Chairperson of SLAF, delivered an opening address highlighting the critical importance of agri-entrepreneurship in today’s world and the global opportunities available for agri-entrepreneurs. Dr. Selvanathan Anojan, Hony. Secretary of SLAF and CEO of Agroworld (Pvt) LTD, shared his inspiring journey as an Agripreneur, offering invaluable insights into his experiences and achievements. Following this, Mr. Heminda Jayaweera, the vice chairman of TRACE, delivered a keynote speech on “Design Thinking,” encouraging innovative problem-solving in agriculture. Following these engaging presentations, Ruwin Mapa, CEO of SLAF, took the stage to emphasize the importance of agri-professionals and introduced SLAF’s ongoing projects aimed at revolutionizing agriculture in Sri Lanka.

At the event’s conclusion, Minister Amaraweera addressed the audience, providing insights into the current state of agriculture in Sri Lanka and emphasizing the urgent requirement for innovation in agri-entrepreneurship. Additionally, he shared his perspective on the challenges faced by the agricultural sector. Mr. Pasindu Gunarathna, Chairman of the National Youth Services Council (NYSC), delivered a compelling speech during the proceedings, emphasizing the integral role of youth in entrepreneurship. Furthermore, Suleco Pvt LTD conducted an impressive drone demonstration, showcasing the potential of technology in agriculture. Outstanding Agripreneurs were recognized and awarded for their exceptional performance.
